Lloyd M. Scofield (1897-1969), a mining engineer and geologist, was an expert on iron ore deposits and the mineral resources surrounding Lake Superior. He worked for Pickands Mather & Company from 1922-1936 in the Gogebic and Marquette ranges of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. From 1936-1943 he worked for Calumet and Hecla Consolidated Copper Company in the Michigan Copper District and rejoined Pickands Mather in 1943, working in their Duluth, Minnesota, office.
